Federal Poverty Level (FPL) Updated for 2018

On January 18, 2018, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released 2018 federal
poverty level (FPL) guidelines. The FPL for a one-person household has increased $80 (about 0.6%)
over 2017, and increased $500 (about 2%) for a family of four.

The new guidelines impact a) Medicaid eligibility to 133% of FPL in states that expanded Medicaid,
and b) Marketplace subsidy eligibility which is limited to household incomes between 100% to 400%
of FPL. The FPL guidelines for the mainland 48 states & D.C. are provided below.

The new guidelines will be available for employers utilizing the FPL Affordability Safe Harbor starting
with plan years on/after February 1, 2018. A helpful table is provided below.
