Health During The Holidays

Staying healthy during the holidays can be extra difficult. There are delicious treats, additional stressors, less routine and more opportunities for late nights.

Be Proactive
  • Don’t put off gift shopping until the last minute. This can lead to additional stress
  • Plan your late evenings. Limit or avoid alcohol which can disrupt your sleep.
  • Eat healthy. There will be plenty of sweets and unhealthy snacks at work and family parties. Try some of these healthy recipes from The American Heart Association.
  • Carve out time for exercise. The holidays are great for rest and relaxation but if you carve out time for physical activity you will be able to make the most out of your time off. Even just a ten- minute mini-workout has proven benefits.
Giving Back to Others

Holidays are a great time to give back. This could be giving financially or donating your time to a charity you are passionate about. Giving offers health benefits like greater self esteem, less depression, and lower levels of stress.

Stay Home if You are Sick

Getting sick during this busy time of year can be frustrating, but don’t risk dragging out your illness or getting others sick. Instead, prioritize your health by getting needed rest and eating healthy. Once you are better, you can get back to enjoying the time off with friends and family.
