The National Healthcare Practice Leader is responsible for advancing IMA’s national presence, growth, and expertise across the healthcare industry. This leader brings deep technical knowledge of healthcare risk, sophisticated carrier relationships, and a strategic mindset oriented around complex healthcare delivery models and regulatory environments. They serve as a highly visible resource across geographies.

Essential Responsibilities:

Growth, Production & Market Impact

  • Drive national new business growth within hospitals, physician groups, senior living, behavioral health, healthcare staffing, managed care organizations, and other care‑delivery sectors.
  • Actively support producers on complex healthcare opportunities, including underwriting strategy, program structure, clinical risk insights, and differentiating IMA in competitive RFP environments.
  • Provide direct involvement on high‑value pursuits, including large health systems, multi‑state operators, and organizations with sophisticated risk financing needs.
  • Participate in internal business reviews, prospect meetings, and client presentations, representing IMA’s national healthcare expertise.
  • Bring forward timely insights on healthcare industry trends—such as consolidation, regulatory changes, professional liability climate, staffing challenges, and reimbursement pressures—and apply them to client strategy.

Healthcare Specialty Strategy & National Alignment

  • Develop and execute the national strategic plan for the Healthcare & Social Services Practice, ensuring alignment with IMA’s enterprise goals.
  • Align service standards, technical expectations, and client delivery models across all IMA markets to ensure consistency for healthcare clients nationwide.
  • Identify emerging risks (e.g., cyber, EPL, medical professional liability, managed‑care E&O, regulatory fines/penalties) and build practice capabilities to address them.
  • Represent IMA in healthcare associations, national groups, and specialty forums involving hospital leadership, senior living executives, physician enterprise leaders, and nonprofit providers.

Carrier and Market Relationships

  • Build and maintain deep relationships with healthcare‑specialized carriers—particularly medical professional liability carriers, alternative risk partners, programs/MGUs, and managed‑care insurers.
  • Lead national carrier strategy for healthcare placements, program design, alternative risk financing, and market‑facing positioning.
  • Collaborate with key carrier partners to develop innovative solutions in response to industry shifts such as staffing shortages, litigation trends, senior living acuity levels, or physician practice consolidation.
  • Facilitate carrier engagement to bring new programs, benchmarking data, and thought leadership to IMA’s clients and internal teams.

Talent Development & Team Leadership

  • Mentor and develop healthcare‑specialized talent across production, account management, analytics, and claims—ensuring deep vertical expertise throughout the practice.
  • Oversee healthcare‑specific training programs, including MPL fundamentals, loss‑sensitive program structures, captive and RRG strategies, regulatory compliance exposures, and post‑acute risk trends.
  • Partner with Market Presidents on specialty‑focused hiring, promotions, and team alignment.
  • Build a sustainable national bench of healthcare experts and maintain a succession plan for healthcare leadership roles.

Collaboration & Internal Integration

  • Coordinate closely with Market Presidents, Commercial Lines Leaders, producers, claims teams, and analytics resources to ensure seamless delivery for healthcare clients
  • Lead national healthcare practice calls and cross‑market collaboration, uniting healthcare experts across IMA’s footprint.
  • Promote knowledge sharing, including emerging case law, medical professional trends, carrier appetite changes, and risk‑management best practices.
  • Partner with Marketing to elevate IMA’s brand in the healthcare space through conferences, association involvement, and thought leadership.
  • Identify and support M&A opportunities that expand IMA’s healthcare capabilities or geographic reach.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Extensive healthcare‑related brokerage, underwriting, or risk‑management experience, with deep technical mastery of healthcare exposures.
  • Strong knowledge across key healthcare verticals such as hospitals, senior living, behavioral health, physician groups, ambulatory surgery centers, managed care organizations, and social services.
  • Demonstrated excellence in developing and maintaining senior‑level relationships with healthcare executives, carrier leaders, and strategic partners.
  • Proven ability to lead national pursuits, design complex insurance programs, and support sales initiatives.
  • Experience managing or advising on large healthcare books of business, including loss‑sensitive and alternative risk structures.

Salary Range
$178,000—$245,000 USD
