President, Atlanta

John Hearn graduated from the University of Georgia in the early ’90s with a degree in Risk Management and Insurance.  Following graduation, he spent 15 years “on the carrier/wholesale side of the business” with stints as Market Manager in Atlanta, Phoenix, and San Diego.  In 2004, John joined Univers, a Goldman Sachs Capital Partners Company, the nation’s leading provider of employee engagement, technology, and enrollment solutions.

In 2009, John purchased shares in The Benefit Company and became a Principal and co-owner.  Now Managing Principal of the firm, John is tasked with leading the team to develop innovative strategies to support clients interested in engaging their employees to manage healthcare cost trends.  Such strategies include, but are not limited to, leveraging leading-edge knowledge of captives, other alternate/self-funding solutions, population management, employee engagement, care management steerage, and prescriptive data analytics.  John is also a leading authority on HealthCare Reform and often speaks to industry forums on the subject.

John states, “The Healthcare system in the U.S. is broken, and misaligned stakeholders are failing to advocate real solutions for employers and their employees.  Employers who are willing to challenge the status quo have a pathway to control their own destiny.”

John recently received the Most Innovative Broker of the Year Award from the Institute for Healthcare Consumerism, and he was also recognized by United Benefit Advisors (UBA) as their National Partner of the Year.

John is a member of the 2010 Class of Leadership Georgia.  He is on the Board of Directors for The Georgia Chamber of Commerce and served on the United Benefit Advisors (UBA) Board of Directors for six years.  John also serves as the Chairman of the Board of Sigma Nu International Fraternity.  His other volunteer work includes Committee Chair for Troop 955 with the Boy Scouts of America, and he serves on the Finance Committee and Usher Team at Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church.

John grew up in Monroe, Georgia with his four siblings, including a twin sister. He and his wife, Amy, a Registered Nurse, now reside in East Cobb with their two daughters, Darden and Christian, and son, Will.  When not serving clients and leading the team at TBC, John enjoys spending time with his family and their dogs, Bentley, Millie, and Oakley, as well as reading, traveling, and hiking.
